SuperDad Is The Hero Without A Cape And Mask
The moment you saw your child enter this world is a day you will never forget. Although being a father is probably one of the most challenging endeavors yet most rewarding, life can be even more challenging when one discovers that their child has been diagnosed with autism. But remember that you’re not alone on this path, we are all here rooting for you. So for this Father’s Day, BHW wants to help you continue being the best SuperDad you can be!
How To Be The SuperDad For Your Kid(s):
- Know Your Role Is Crucial – You are the “Superman” to your child’s “Metropolis.” You are the hero they dream of when their world is in trouble and needs saving. So always remember to keep a look out for your SuperDad signal and ask your “partner in crime” (aka your child) if they need any assistance. Being a SuperDad doesn’t require supersonic strength or the ability to fly. Your little one will think you’re an amazing hero as long as you’re there for them.
- Find Support – Many SuperDad fathers have benefited greatly from being a part of support networks. Decide which support network is best for you and reach out to them to get involved! If you need counseling, don’t be afraid to reach out to a professional who can help you through the challenges that you’re currently experiencing. Don’t underestimate the importance of reaching out as you’ll come to find out that many others are going through something similar. Support groups and counseling have the potential to help you become a more equipped hero for your child.
- Talk To Your Partner – Parenthood is a shared experience and you will need to keep the lines of communication open at all times. It can be a daunting task to raise your child and you will need to rely on each other to get through it on a daily basis. So always ask your partner how you can work together to make sure your child’s universe stays safe.
- Learn As Much As You Can – Read up on your child’s condition so you can understand it better. Speak to experts on autism, talk to your child’s doctor and meet with a specialist so you can learn the skills necessary to help your child. There is a lot of research in this area so if you’re ever feeling stuck, confused or unsure, just reach out to us at partnership@www.bhwcares.com and we’d be more than happy to share some resources. By learning as much as possible, SuperDad can come to their rescue.
- Engage With Your Child – Find a shared interest or try out an activity. The role you play in helping to build your child’s communication skills and social skills will go a long way so don’t just leave it to the teachers and your partner. And in the process, don’t get discouraged when it’s not smooth sailing at times but do know that it will be worth every sweat and tear that was invested. Being a SuperDad is a tough job but when you see your child smile and run to you with open arms and with nothing holding them back, it will make saving their little world so worthwhile and priceless.
Being a father is a task done by ordinary people with extraordinary powers. Fathers have the ability to become a child’s hero, confidant and friend. And despite this role being overwhelming at times, the impact that you will have on your child will last a lifetime. Don’t worry, no one is a perfect parent, just take it one step at a time and never give up! So for this Father’s Day, BHW would like to thank all the fathers for being the hero in your child’s life. Happy Father’s Day!
