Summer Is Just Around The Corner, Finish the School Year Right!
Summer is just around the bend as the school year comes to an end. Most children are anticipating their last day of school but until then, the school year is not yet over. So, how do we inspire our loved ones to finish strong? Here at BHW, we understand how thrilling a summer vacation can be for your little one but we want to make sure that they end their school year on a good note. So here are 4 things that you can do to help your child continue to be the superstar student that they have been all year!
- Refresh Your Child’s Gear: After months of hard work and time spent in the classroom, many students are left with school supplies that probably needs to be replenished. Help your child put forth their best effort by restocking their school supplies. A freshly sharpened pencil or even a new box of crayons can make a world of a difference!
- Lead by Example: We are all excited for summer to start and yes, this even includes parents! The weekend camping trips or even the late night weekday movies at home with no worries of school the next day are running through the minds of parents. Yet kids learn by example and are quick to pick up on your tone if you also wished summer was already here. If your child hears you talking about how you wish it was summer already or about the upcoming summer adventures you are all going to have, he/she may lose focus on their schoolwork. Instead, we advise parents/guardians to inspire their loved ones to do their very best on their last few assignments to be ready to graduate into the next level. Encourage your kids to continue setting aside time to complete homework and prioritize attending school on a regular/daily basis. Your positive attitude will help set the tone for your child to finish strong!
- Continue that Routine: As the summer hype continues to build, your child’s anticipation and excitement can sometimes be difficult to manage. For instance, getting your child to bed on time. But don’t give up! Keep up with your routine! It’s super important to help your child continue to get a good night’s rest through the end of the school year. We recommend that you stay with your child’s regular bedtime and continue to block out part of their after school timeline for their homework and at-home reading.
- Create Reachable Goals: Goals are a great way to keep students motivated and on task towards the end of the school year. Help your child select one or two small goals to accomplish. The goals should be challenging but reachable. Some ideas include things like moving up a level in reading, memorizing their multiplication table or having a certain number of positive behavior days. Work with your kids to determine steps to take to work towards their goals and encourage more practice at home.
Behavioral Health Works understands how it can be to difficult to continue staying focused especially with those summer vacation days coming by. Stay focused and organized and soon your child will reap the reward of summertime fun and relaxation and be able to look back with a great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.
