Reinforcement vs Bribery?
What are you doing to get desired behaviors from your children?
Reinforcement vs bribery? Which do you utilize when dealing with your children? Threats and bribes may appear to work by temporarily changing behavior of some children; however, there are many pitfalls associated with their use.
The Reinforcement vs Bribery Workshop delved into providing alternatives to threats and bribes by changing the environment. A comprehensive overview of positive reinforcement was discussed. Dr. Adams provided the audience with practical applications of reinforcement-based strategies for behavior change. In addition, he also highlighted the use of strategies to make reinforcers more effective. The premark principle is one strategy that can be used before maladaptive behaviors occur so that one does not have to use threats and bribes. The participants had an opportunity to ask Dr. Adams individualized questions at the end of the workshop.
A big thank you to all the parents and teachers who took the time to come out to Behavioral Health Works and learn about the long term effectiveness that positive reinforcement can have on changing behavior. Thank you to Dr. David Adams for presenting the Reinforcement vs Bribery Workshop.
